Our coffee story begins within the municipality of Circasia in Quindio, Colombia. It is an area that was formerly notoriously dangerous during decades of conflict. Renowned for its climate and incredibly rich soil, it is arguably one of the best places on earth to cultivate coffee.
La Cafetalera
It became the birthplace of La Esmeralda farm, the epicenter of our artisanal agricultural revolution. Our labor of love is to cultivate the purest genetics of Arabica coffee; the Geisha variety, in an agroforestry system with a strategy for environmental and social sustainability.
La Geisha
Discovered in the village of Gesha in Ethiopia, the variety came to be known as Geisha for its exquisite exoticness. It is acclaimed as the ‘champagne of coffee’ and renowned as the best in the world due to its richly complex palate-pleasing flavor.

For as long as I can remember, I have longed to fulfill my aspirations to be positively impactful, to live the historical moments that leave a legacy for generations.
I arrived in Quindio in 2014, with family fortunes depleted after my father’s 26 month battle against lung cancer that ultimately claimed his life. Leaving my mother alone in Manizales, I embarked on the journey accompanied by my wonderful wife Estefania, my delightful daughter Mariana, three cats, and a dog.
My hands held a box with a variety of Geisha coffee poppies, and my heart held a purposeful passion to pursue the coffee project that my father and I had longed for. The path propelled me to the farm of my father-in-law, Germán, where coffee farming has been the family tradition for over 30 years.
The Challenge
The exceeding rarity is due to several compounding factors. True genetics are difficult to acquire and are closely kept by the farms that have acquired them. A delicate variety, Geisha harvests are roughly half the yields of other coffees, with roughly half the caffeine content and twice the sweetness of most other varieties.
Caffeine is a natural insecticide, and sweetness attracts pests. With half the natural defenses and twice the temptation for parasites, there is an unforgivingly small margin for error for conventional cultivation, indescribably more so for certified organic production.
The Process
It's no wonder that most cultivators shy from the risks of producing sustainable organic Geisha. Boutique quality organic geisha necessitates the most stringent standards for production and processing. All our artisanal processes are certified organic: Planting, fertilization, weeding, and all the elements of harvesting, processing, and drying.
